The area covered by each enumerator also varied slightly year on year: while Hulverstone was consistently included in Brook, parts of Mottistone were at times included in Brighstone. People took on a variety of jobs to make ends meet but could only choose one for the purpose of the census. Mottistone in 1891 and 1901 are where we know the numbers printed here are unreliable.
