I sometimes stayed at Hanover during the Wartime, Mum used to help Auntie Margaret and Auntie Gladys. One day I plucked up courage and I ventured up into the attic, it had always intrigued me. I couldn’t believe my eyes - it was like an Alladins cave. There were painted bucket and spades with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck on, beach balls deflated in their packets and perished so I couldn’t even blow them up however hard I tried, sand castle flags and masses of other things I’d never seen the likes of before. What it was of course was the old shop stock, the beaches were out of bounds during the war and there were no holiday makers, so such items were just put away and forgotten about. To me it was a treasure chest.
