Like most farms in those days, Hanover Farm was a dairy farm. From the census we know that in 1861, farmer Benjamin Jacobs was the tenant, in 1871 the Blakes, in 1881 Fred Priddle and in 1891, Ellen A Way, a widow, was living there on her own. By 1911 James Wheeler was the last dairy farmer to farm there.

Later the Pragnell family lived and worked the farm. Daisy Pragnell was gardener to the Seely family at Brook in the 1920s and 30s and in 1926 she married Alf Newbery from Hulverstone who later became head gardener at Brook House.
